It covers the big ideas in Reading and Writing, as well as questions to ask your child when they are reading to you, ideas for oral language and writing. Here are a few of examples of activities you can do if you want some extra practice with your words.
1. ABC order- Write your words in alphabetical order.
2. Reversed words- Write your words in ABC order… backwards!
3. Backwards words- Write your words forwards, then backwards!
4. Computer fun- Use your computer to type your words. Use different fonts and make it look really fun!
5. Silly sentences- Choose 5 spelling words and write silly sentences. Underline the spelling word.
6. Pyramid words- Write your words adding one letter at a time. The result will be a pyramid shape of words!

7. New Words: Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write two additional words of at least three letters that can be spelled using the letters in the word. Example: the word pickle can be used to make the words lick, pick, like, and lip.
8. Disappearing words- Write each word, then write it again but leave one letter out… then write it again and leave TWO letters out… then three… until your word has disappeared!
Example: cowboy
cowboy _owboy __wboy ___boy ____oy _____y _____
9. Computer fun- Use your computer to type your words. Use different fonts and make it look really fun! Be sure you print it out and bring it in your homework folder!
10. SKETCH IT!- draw a picture for each spelling word and label it with the spelling word
11. TEST: Take a practice test and have someone correct it with you.
12. COPY CAT: Write your spelling words 5 times each.
13. Syllabication: write your spelling words broken up into syllables ex.: bun-ny, o-ver, com-pu-ter, etc.
